Week 1 Lute Faculty

The Lute Society of America Seminar East will again take part in tandem with Amherst Early Music and is an opportunity for players of all levels to take part. Offering classes for lute players of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced. The all-star faculty lineup for 2017 includes Xavier Diaz-Latorre, Christopher Morrongiello, Nigel North, and Jason Priset. Classes topics will include: English Lute Music 1580-1620 (North), Master Class (Diaz-Latorre, and North), Spanish polyphony and dances of the Golden Century (Diaz-Latorre), Fundamentals of Renaissance Lute Playing (Morringiello), Elizabethan and Jacobean Ballads and Popular Music (Morrongiello).
In addition to the Lute Society of America Seminar East, the first week at Amherst Early Music also offers opportunities for lutenists to take part in the Baroque Academy. The Baroque Academy includes Baroque lute and theorbo for advanced players, including working with Richard Stone on solo repertoire, in ensemble, and accompanying singers in Cavalli's L'Erismena scenes
